Danny McDevitt, age-16, Abington PA (
faceoffking@comcast.net)Mr. McDevitt was born with Streeter's Dysplasia. This syndrome involves missing and displaced
bones and tendons in his lower legs and feet. He averaged an operation every 12 to 18 months from
birth. At age-9, Danny, his doctors and parents all agreed that amputation would provide a better
quality of life. By age-11 Danny was a bilateral below knee amputee. Using prosthetics allowed him
to walk, run and play sports. He played baseball, soccer, basketball and roller hockey, but, as he
grew older he found it more difficult to keep up with the "able-bodied" kids. Danny now plays sled
hockey, rows once a week with a disabled program and plays golf. His favorite sport is sled hockey.
Danny currently plays on three teams. He started playing sled hockey at age-11 with the Atlantic
Hammerheads junior team. He also played on the Under-20 Team for the past four years where he
serves as captain. He has played for the PA Center-Pedes for the past three years. Danny is now a
sophomore at Abington High School.
